Naming policy
Every image here can be named by anyone with an account, and every name is part of a permanent public record. This page says what we allow, in plain terms.
Checked at submission
Names are checked automatically at the moment you submit them. A name is rejected before it is ever saved if it contains:
- profanity or slurs,
- links, domain names, or @-handles,
- promotional text (discounts, coupons, “follow me”, and similar).
A rejected name is not stored anywhere — you simply get a message asking you to try something else.
Reports and appeals
Every name on an image page has a report button. Reported names are reviewed by a person, and names that break the rules above are removed. If your name was removed and you think that was a mistake, you can appeal from your account page — appeals are also reviewed by a person, and you get an answer by email.
The spirit of it
Names are a cultural record attached to a permanent address. Name images the way you'd name a star or a newly discovered species — with some care, and in good faith.
